The National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Human Rights (hereinafter - the Center) was established based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated October 31, 1996 "On the establishment of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Human Rights".

The Center is a state body that ensures mutual cooperation of state bodies and other organizations in the fulfillment of international obligations of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights, preparation of national reports, expansion of cooperation with international organizations for the protection of human rights.

The Center exercises its powers independently of all state bodies and organizations and their officials.

Every year, the Center provides information to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, chambers of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the state of compliance with the international obligations of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights.

The Center supports the activities of state bodies, institutions of civil society, education, research and other organizations on the issues of fulfilling the international obligations of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights.

As a participant of the National Preventive Mechanism, the Center carries out monitoring visits to penal institutions, places of detention and special receptions in order to identify cases of torture.

The Center carries out publishing activities and publishes the scientific periodical "Democratization and Human Rights" and other printed products on human rights.

Our main goal is to help improve human rights protection mechanisms in our country and increase human rights culture and literacy of the population.
